On the morning of the 3rd of July, the Premier League and global sports world was shaken when Premier League Champion and Liverpool Football Club forward Diogo Jota and his brother, FC Penafiel forward Andre Silva were found dead after a fatal car accident in Spain, at the ages of 28 and 25 respectively.

A statement from the Guardia Civil, a national law enforcement in Spain said the following: "The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blow out while overtaking.”
"It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora. The car caught on fire and the two occupants were killed."
Diogo was an accomplished footballer at both club and country level, making a name for himself in England first at Wolverhampton Wanderers and winning the EFL Championship as a key member of their 17/18 side, before moving to Liverpool and making an immediate impact, becoming a crucial part of the team as they’ve gone on to win every domestic honour possible, with Jota lodging 6 goals in 26 appearances in Liverpool’s 24/25 Premier League winning campaign.
Jota had also made 49 appearances for his native Portugal, scoring 14 goals in the process and being part of both of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League winning sides, in 2019 and in 2025, where he would play his last professional game in a 5-3 victory over Spain on penalties in the Nations League finals.

Andre Silva was a regular in Portugal’s lower leagues, plying his trade in Liga Portugal 2 for FC Penafiel, registering 15 goals and assists across 62 games for the club.

The tragedy comes just 10 days after Jota had married his childhood sweetheart and the mother to his 3 children.
Tributes have been pouring out all day from all corners of the football world, with Jota’s club Liverpool FC releasing a statement and football fans being seen at the Hillsborough Memorial outside Liverpool’s stadium Anfield, leaving tributes of their own.
We at Chronicle Uprise would like to extend our deepest condolences and wishes to Diogo’s wife Rute Cardoso, his 3 children, and the rest of Diogo and Andre’s familia, as well as to anyone else affected by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.
